We got there right as the doors were opening, and there were only about 10 or so people in front of us (By the way, "us" = me and 5 or 6 of my friends). This was my first indoor, small club concert, so I didn't really know what to expect. We went inside, looked around a little bit, bought t-shirts, etc. Well, I wanted to go right up front where a small group of people were already forming, so I could get a good spot. But everyone else wanted to go up and sit in the front row of the balcony. It was a good view, but it was just too damn far away. But, I didn't feel like going up front mysefl, so I stayed with them. I kept trying to talk them into coming down with me, but the lazy bastards didn't want to. So, I stayed there till the opener came on...
The opening act was a guy named Michael Shelley, which I believe is formerly of Cheeky Monkey. Anyways....there isn't really much to say about him...typical "alternative" sound, nothing special. He did play a little too long though. You could tell everybody just wanted him to finish up already. He wasn't too bad though. All during this time I kept trying to talk them into gong down front, cause it was starting to get pretty crowded....but f course, they still wanted to stay up there.
Now...They Might Be Giants were ready to come on. I finally talked one of my friends into coming down with me, cause I was gonna leave whether anyone was coming with me or not. It was crowded as fuck down there already. As soon as we got down there though, we ran into another one of my friends and her friend, who was very cool, cause he bought me a couple beers since he was 21. Anyways, we all got as close as we could, which wasn't very close at all...maybe 50 feet away from the stage. As it turns out, a lot of TMBG fans are rather tall....so I couldn't really see worth shit...which also meant I wasn't gonna get any pictures. Now I was kinda wishing I had stayed up in the balcony. But oh well, it was all good. They played for about an hour and a half, and they played every song I wanted em to play, except No One Knows My Plan. The reason I wanted this was cause thats when they do the giant conga line, which is one of the funnest parts of their shows....and plus, I would've gotten a chance to get up front. Overall, it wasn't bad, but it could've been a lot better if it wasn't for my lazy ass friends. Rating: 7/10
