Bands: Nothingface, Relative Ash, Endo
This was a pretty decent show at this little club in Baltimore that's usually
reserved for local bands, but Nothingface is from here (Baltimore) and they
have a big following around here...this was also their first show in B-more
since their new CD "Violence" came out, and the club was PACKED. The first
band up was Endo, out of Miami...they only played about six songs, but they
sounded real good. Hearing them live, I kinda thought they sounded like
another rap-metal band, but after downloading a few of their songs on mp3, I
was wrong...they're more of a conventional metal band. Anyway, their new
CD's coming out soon, pick it up, this band has potential. Next up was
Relative Ash...ugh. I guess their music sounded alright, but the singer
could best be described as a second-rate knockoff of a wannabe Chino Moreno.
He really ruined the band's sound for everyone, and outside of the 10 or so
people in the pit, there were a lot of looks of boredom on the faces of the
people...oh well, they got up on stage and tried hard, which is about all you
can expect from a band. And then...NOTHINGFACE came out, and everyone in the
bar just lost their shit. They played a lot of stuff from "Violence", a few
songs from "An Audio Guide to Everyday Atrocity", and "One Thing" from
"Pacifier", which has always been a crowd favorite. The only bad thing about
their set is that it ended too early...they were slotted until 1:00, and they
took off at 12:50. The people went home happy, though.
I do want to bitch about the trend of assholes starting fights at shows
now...it was ridiculous, I think 3 fights broke out in that little place over
the course of the night. Endo actually had to stop in the middle of a song
to calm some guys down who were going at it in the pit, which is just
inexcusable. I'm guessing it was the kids they let in...it was an all-ages
show, and the kids don't really know how to handle themselves...little
bastards, trying to ruin everyone else's fun.
On the RevMaynard scale, this show gets an 8...two of the three bands just
totally kicked ass, and at least the other one didn't sound TOO bad. All the
fighting and shit was a pain in the ass too, but overall it was a good show.
I'd seriously advise everyone out there to grab a copy of Nothingface's
"Violence"...what an incredible fuckin' CD.
