Days of the New. God I love this band, especially their new cd. I dunno what it is about acoustic guitars, and then when you combine that with a little electronic and symphonic sounds like they did on the new cd, I just can't resist it. And seeing how this concert was only $5, I wasn't gonna fucking miss it. And luckily I got there early enough to get a spot right up front, which of course resulted in alot of good pictures.
As far as I knew, it was just going to be Sinomatic and DotN, but when it came time for the show to start, who comes out but Ivet. This would be the second time I'd seen them in exactly a week after having heard nothing from them for about 3 years before then. I just explained them in the review for the Mushroomhead show I went to a week before this, so if you need to know who they are, etc., then just go read that. Now as impressed as I was with them last time, jesus christ did they fucking rock this time. They were just so damn tight, it just flowed, every single part stood out so you could just listen to one of the guys at a time and hear how damn good they were, or listen to it as a whole and appreciate it for how well it fit together, it was just amazing how good these guys were. And they actually got a huge reaction from the crowd, as opposed to the shitty reaction they got the week before. Sadly though they're about the only good non-metal band in Cleveland.
The next band was Sinomatic. Now I had barely heard of them before this, only like once on the radio. They're a new band out of nearby Youngstown, and they just signed a national record deal, so I'd watch out for them. What do they sound like? Well let's just say the lead singer has got to be the reincarnation of Jim Morrison, not only vocally, but the way he looks and acts, it's unnerving how much he reminds me of Jim. But the band in general, they sounded a little like Creed, but with a heavier, darker, hard rock type sound to 'em, and a couple of their songs are just downright catchy, yet still fucking badass, so like I said, watch out for them hitting it big.
Lastly, Days of the New. To further prove that this was a night of The Doors recincarnated, as soon as the lights went out, a Doors song came on, I don't remember which one, cause I'm not 100% familiar with all of their songs, and after that was done, out come the band members one by one, and finally Travis comes out. Damn did that little place get loud. Immediately they broke into "Shelf in the Room", one of my favorites. Hell, they ended up playing all my favorites...everything I like off of their first cd, 3 or 4 off the new one, and then one or two off the cd they're currently working, which sounded really damn good, I can't wait for that one. What was really amusing was how flamboyant the guitarist standing right in front of me was, he was always doing these fruity little hand gestures, and he even pointed at me with my camera and came over and posed for me twice, one of which you can see down there on the bottom right.
After they played for about 40 minutes they went offstage, but of course it wasn't over yet cause the lights didn't go out, and after a couple minutes, they came back out and broke into Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In The Wall", except it was a really fast and heavy version of it, so I didn't even recognize it at first...then after playing that for a minute, they broke into quite possibly my favorite DotN song, "The Down Town", and since everyone knew that was the last song, that place fucking went wild. I said fuck taking pictures, I moved back from the wall and towards the middle of the floor and just lost it with everyone else, not really moshing cause no one else really was, but just jumping around and really getting into it. I tell ya, this concert was a fucking blast, I'm giving it a 10.
