I didn't even know I was going to this concert till like the day before. A bunch of my friends were going, but then one of em couldn't go at the last minute so they had an extra ticket. I probably wouldn't have gone otherwise, cause I'm not a real huge fan of Cake. I sure am glad I did go, cause it was damn fun.

We were running a little late getting there, so we had to get in there and figure out who was going where. I wanted to go up front right up against the stage like usualy, but some of them didn't want to. I tried to talk this girl named Heidi into coming up and chilling with me in the front, but she didn't wanna piss off her boyfriend cause he wanted to stay in the seated area in the back. Damn! Oh well, guess I'd just be up front by myself once again. I don't care though, cause it enhances the concert experience so much more than being in the back. So I got myself a spot on the right side of the stage, right in front of where the guitarist would be.Aaaanyway, the openers were this band called the Damnations, consisting of two guys and two chicks. And well, let's say it was a bit of a surprise....cause they were fucking country. They were ok for being country, but still...ugh. Either way though, I wasn't gonna start booing em or anything, like some people like to do to openers they don't like...so I managed to get through their set...which I might add, was a little too long for an opener....of all opening bands to play longer than usual..damn. What pissed me off a little though is some of the people in the crowd were booing em and talking shit. How the fuck would you like it if you were in a band, and you were opening for a bigger band, and people in the crowd were disrespecting you like that? C'mon people, at least give em a little respect, they're trying to pay the rent by doing something they love, playing music. Bah, ok my rant's done...and so is me talking about this band...onto Cake.

The break between the two bands at this concert had to be the longest I've ever seen. I dunno if they were having technical problems or what, but we had to wait a little over a fucking hour. And it looked like they had everything set up in like a half hour too. So, that pissed me off a little bit, cause I was growing rather tired of standing. But then they finally came out...all dressed in cowboy gear, which was rather fitting because of the openers. I can't remember exactly what songs they played, cause it was awhile ago, but I think they split it about half and half between Fashion Nugget and Prolonging the Magic, and like one or two from Motorcade of Generosity, which had to be Rock & Roll Lifestyle...even though I don't have the CD, I love that song...and John had the crowd singing the chorus...damn that was fun. Then, near the end, people started crowd surfing...crowd surfing at a Cake concert? Uhh ok. One chick even made it all the way to the stage, ran up and hugged John...he was like "heeey whoa, I don't care if you hug me, just don't mess up the tuning on my guitar." Then the security guards carried her out the back door, and tossed her into the alley. So then of course more idiots get the idea to crowd surf up to the stage...so we've got 4 or 5 guards on the stage waiting for people...that pissed me off, as it seemed like it pissed off the band too. It was weird too, cause this one huge guard right in front of me, kept looking at me like I was gonna jump up on stage...I just gave him this innocent look heh. Anyway, it was an ok concert...it woulda been better if the gap between bands was shorter, the opener wasn't so shitty, and if Cake had played longer. I give it a 7 (out of 10).
